Two senior students of Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus Laboratory High School bagged the second place in the Physical Science Cluster 2 Student Team Category during the 13th INTEL Philippines Science Fair. The said event was held in UP Diliman, Quezon City on February 15-17, 2010.

Hanna Frusein S. Escobido and Brayl G. Ymbol’s science investigatory project was among the few entries nationwide that survived the rigorous pre-judging phase. The project entitled Corn Cob Ash: A Promising Material for Semi-conducting Temperature Sensor: An Investigative Study yielded signifi-cant results that the corn cob ash can be low cost semi-conducting material that can be used as electrical temperature sensor (thermistor). The 13th Intel Philippine Science Fair.jpgThe study can also provide answer to the problem on waste storage and disposal of corn cobs specially that in the Philippines, corn production is second to rice production.

Escobido and Ymbol’s investigative study was also awarded as the Most Outstanding Exhibit in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry by the Yale Science and Engineering Association Inc. This study is a candidate entry to the International Science Fair. The team shall be officially notified as to the final venue and date of the said event.

Mr. Benito A. Baje of CSU Butuan acts as the official coach. Ms. Joy Lyn D. dela Cruz of CSU Cabadbaran is the co-coach.
